XENA'S KIMONO WITH SHORT JACKET AND GATHERED SKIRT/PANT BENEATH, OBI AND SASH, SHOES

 NOTES FROM THE ATHENAEUM:

The Xena kimono appears to be a simple robe, but reflects elements of traditional kimono design, including a short kosode with hakama trouser tied with cords (never visible on screen) worn beneath the full length kimono. Both the kosode and kimono feature hirosode, long drop sleeves which are unsewn under the arms and open fully for the wrist, all cinched with obi and obi scarf. The costumes worn by Geisha and Samurai in FIN also exhibit this detail of design, incorporating historical research into original creations, as did the costumes of the Romans in other episodes.
